Series Synopsis Brutal: Paws of Fury (1994) Every four years on the uncharted Brutal Island, the world's toughest martial artists are invited to compete in the most gruelling tournament, aptly referred to as the Brutal Island Tournament. This could be remedied with use of the Sega 6 button pad. Many fighting game fans preferred the SNES version, if only due to the 6-button controller, each button to correspond with strong, medium, and weak punches/kicks, while the standard Sega Genesis 3-button controller forced players to toggle between punches and kicks.

The general content and gameplay has remained constant throughout all incarnations, although the Sega releases boasted superior graphics and sound. Another version, Brutal: Above the Claw was released on the 32X and PC in 1995 with two new playable characters and a remixed introduction. The computer versions drop this feature, though.Brutal: Paws of Fury was released in 1994 by GameTek and Cybersoft in the US, and Kemco in Japan on the Amiga, Sega Genesis and Sega Mega-CD, and was ported to the Super NES later the same year. In the console versions, you start the game without special moves, but get a new one after each successful best-of-three bout. The visuals lean towards cutesiness, which makes a change from the gore of Mortal Kombat and the metal of Rise of the Robots. You can choose to fight either a computer-controlled opponent or another human player. Instead of beginning a whole new game, you can fight a single duel, choosing the opponent and terrain.

Once you have defeated them, you can watch an ending animation, different depending on the character you have chosen. If the computer-controlled player won, it’s game over (but you can still use a continue to start the fight anew) if you won, you move on to the next opponent.

Each battle lasts a number of rounds (how many – that is determined in the options menu) once one combatant has won that number of times during the battle, he wins. There are a wide variety of furry creatures to take on, and finally the Dalai Llama himself.ĭuring a duel, you can punch and kick your opponent, try to use special attacks on him/her, or use a “taunt” that restores a bit of your health. The Dalai Llama has organised a martial arts contest for animals of all species to prove their skills, and you are competing in it. Play Brutal: Paws of Fury online!
